Setting Realistic Reading Goals for 2025

It’s been quite some time since I’ve set any reading goals. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever truly committed to one. The thought of meeting a specific target has always felt daunting. This is especially true when I see fellow book bloggers already racking up impressive numbers. And we’re still just in January! How do they do it? I’ll probably never know.

This year, though, I’ve decided to give it a shot. I need a tangible goal to propel me ahead and to finally tackle those books gathering dust on my shelves. Keeping it manageable, I’ve set my sights on reading 25 books this year. It feels like a reasonable challenge, and I know I have at least that many waiting to be explored. It’s a blend of excitement and trepidation. I believe setting this goal will enhance my reading experience. It will push me to delve into stories I’ve been eager to uncover.

Since it’s only January, I’m not imposing any monthly goals just yet. Admittedly, I haven’t finished a book yet, but I am optimistic that I will get there soon. Breaking down my reading into monthly targets feels overwhelming. Thus, my focus remains entirely on the 25-book target for now. I want to create a sense of urgency while still being flexible enough to enjoy my reading without added pressure.

The easiest way for me to keep on track is to look at each book individually. I avoid focusing on the whole gambit of books to read. I used to get overwhelmed with a pile of books. I felt like I had to finish them or I wouldn’t be a good book blogger. Picking one book and putting my focus on that, I feel will work best for me.

My Starting Point

Kicking off my reading journey is What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher, a modern reinterpretation of the classic The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe. The cover instantly caught my eye, drawing me in with its unsettling imagery and intriguing design. Now that I’m on Chapter 3, I find myself thoroughly engaged. The rich atmosphere and the re-imagining of Poe’s original elements have captivated my attention from the start.

Since I haven’t read the original Poe story, I’m diving into this one without any preconceived notions. This approach allows me to immerse myself in Kingfisher’s narrative without the weight of expectations that often accompanies adaptations. Nevertheless, I’m excited to finish it and share my thoughts in a review! with contemporary readers.

My Favorite Genre

Horror has consistently been the genre that captures my attention the most. It’s a fascinating realm brimming with countless variations and sub-genres. These offer captivating reads. They give a unique escape from reality. Readers become immersed in dark and suspenseful narratives. I find the exploration of fear, psychological twists, and the unknown to be incredibly compelling.

Nonetheless, horror isn’t my sole interest. I’ve discovered that a well-crafted thriller or mystery can also offer an enjoyable experience. These genres feature intricate plots and unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. The thrill of piecing together clues is exciting. Solving puzzles alongside the characters often mirrors the joy of cracking a challenging riddle.

Additionally, I’m eager to find a fantasy series that truly resonates with me. I want to commit more deeply to richly built worlds and complex characters. I wish for them to spark my imagination and offer an escape into realms of magic and adventure.

My fiancé is an avid fan of Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series and owns the full collection. I’ve begun reading the first book, Wizard’s First Rule, and I genuinely enjoy it. Still, given its considerable length, I expect it’ll take me quite some time to finish!

Future Outlook

As I embark on this reading journey, I aim to achieve a sense of accomplishment. This feeling comes as I see the list of completed books grow. Here’s to a year filled with captivating stories, new discoveries, and the thrill of reaching my reading goal!

Let’s see how far I can go; I might even surpass my goal without even realizing it!
